What’s new with Aptar
We have an exciting position open: North America Payroll Manager, reporting to NA Senior Manager, Benefits & HRIS. This position will be based remotely and will be responsible for managing all activities and resources of the Regional Payroll Department ensuring accurate payroll processing for 2,600 U.S and Canadian employees. The Payroll Manager will be responsible for all aspects of each pay cycle including, but not limited to, master data integrity, time reporting, pay rules, pay confirmation, auditing and reporting.

 

This is how your journey begins

  • Ownership and accountability for U.S. and Canada payroll end-to-end operations, including payroll processes and procedures, SOX controls, and consistent and accurate payroll execution
  • Responsible for the integrity of master data
  • Perform audit of payrolls prior to commit to ensure accuracy
  • Confirm accurate payroll expense reporting to Finance department and answer any payroll expense related questions
  • Handle compliance with internal/external audits including preparation and updates to the payroll process narrative and respond to any auditor requests for testing and documentation
  • Ensure that all operational processes are controlled from a risk perspective, and have built-in control plans and assessments to regularly review their effectiveness
  • Identify payroll vulnerabilities and opportunities for improvement
  • Research and resolve payroll issues and respond promptly to all payroll related questions from employees and managers
  • Reconcile retirement plan contributions transmitted to vendors
  • Coordinate the set-up of accounts with state and local tax jurisdictions and work with the payroll vendor to make sure tax filings and deposits are completed on a timely basis
  • Manage the quarterly and year end payroll process, including distribution of W-2s
  • Develop and prioritize processes to improve the payroll experience for employees; drive projects to create efficiencies, improve quality of service delivery, and increase customer satisfaction
  • Execute controls/verifications throughout the payroll process according to best practices and compliance requirements
  • Monitor payroll interfaces and other related systems
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and point of contact for escalations and various ad hoc requests
  • Manage and develop the payroll team, ensuring they are successful, maintaining the company’s values and providing excellent customer service to all employees
  • Ensure appropriate staff training and cross-training , etc.
  • Monitor External Partner / Vendor service performance on a regular basis
  • Collaborate with External Partner/Vendor on the update of payroll system parameters based on governmental and labor changes
  • Identify and propose improvement actions related to process and systems/tools
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices. 

 

What you will bring on the journey

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field
  • Certified Payroll Professional designation preferred

Experience:

  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience on payroll process / activities
  • Prior people manager experience and leading diverse teams
  • Payroll processing systems experience in leadership role
  • Experience with Ceridian Dayforce preferred
  • Familiarity with payroll software/HRIS (e.g. SuccessFactors, SAP, Ceridian, ADP) and MS Office (especially Excel)
  • Experience in a Shared Services Center environment (is a plus)
  • Multi-state and mergers/acquisitions payroll experience

  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and payroll taxes.

  • A strong team player with highly effective interpersonal skills, strong team building, collaboration and influencing skills required to achieve desired outcomes. Exercises influence at senior levels and build alignment around goals and objectives.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate data and make operational decisions.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills, with high level of attention to detail.
