What You Will Do at Gateway Analytical of Aptar Pharma:

Position Summary:     The Associate Scientist is primarily a training scientist who will complete training in at least one (1) technical offering. 

 

  1. Significant Responsibilities & Accountabilities: 
      •  Complete training on at least one (1) technical offering.  Example technical offerings are manual foreign particulate analysis, automated particulate analysis, guided analyses, CCIT, glass delamination, etc.
      • Aids technical leads in data collection, report writing, sample preparation, and data interpretation as training progresses.
      • Become familiar with Gateway Analytical SOPs, work instructions, test methods, and quality drivers.
      • Aids the lab in maintaining quality KPIs including on time reporting and report accuracy.
      • Maintains, cleans, or sterilizes laboratory instruments or equipment
      • Orders and inventories materials to maintain supplies.
      • Once training in a technical area is completed the scientist will be responsible for:
        1. Maintaining project load
        2. Preparing and analyzing samples
        3. Interpreting data
        4. Reporting
      • Shadow and take part in customer communications to include email, calls, and meetings as needed.
      • Aid upper level scientists and management in documentation and testing as needed for annual preventative maintenance and qualifications of instrumentation.
      • Aid upper level scientists and management in bringing new instrumentation and methods online.
      • All other duties as assigned by management.

 

  1. Minimum Qualifications Required: 
  • Education:  Bachelors Degree in a Natural Science or equivalent experience.
      • Experience:  Relevant experience may be substituted for education. 
      • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:  A keen interest in a fast-paced scientific learning environment with an emphasis on applying new skills, good written and oral communication skills, vast laboratory equipment knowledge, basic word processing skills, team-oriented work ethic, and procedural skills for the use of various laboratory instrumentation.  Data collection, reporting, research, and technical analysis skills necessary.  Critical thinking and problem-solving skills. 
      • Certification/Licensure/Qualification:
      • Training:  Training will be provided.
      • Instrumentation:  As specified

 

  1. Typical Physical Demands: (reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions)
      • Work Location:  Indoors, heated/air-conditioned office/lab.
      • Work Postures:  Position is essentially sedentary; incumbent spends occasional time walking and standing.
      • Lifting/Carrying:  Occasional lifting/carrying of boxes and supplies up to 50 pounds.
      • Equipment:  Often uses personal computer, lab equipment, copy machine, and fax machine.
      • Visual Activity:  Ability to view computer screens, reading scripts and reports, observing experiments (color recognition, depth perception, close-up reading)
      • Hearing:  Position entails moderate amount of phone contact, incoming and outgoing.
      • Work Hours:  40 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

 

  1. Typical Mental Demands:  Incumbent may encounter some stress in managing multiple projects or performing multiple tasks.

Typical Working Conditions:  Positions in Gateway Analytical may require working in locations or performing activities that, regardless of best efforts may be described as potentially dangerous.  These working conditions may be located in areas of chemical exposure and emitted radiation.  Although not typical in Lab Services, the laboratory environments may contain hazardous exposure to fumes, dust, and other toxic substances.  It is the responsibility of the employee to understand the hazards, wear proper PPE, and exercise extreme caution while working in such situations.
