Our fast‑growing, technology‑driven manufacturing company is seeking a SMED Technician to join our 12‑hour, 2/2/3 rotational day shift. 

 

This is how your journey begins:

  • Install and remove injection molds in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Communicate the status of mold changes to the operators, supervisors, technicians, and process engineers.
  • Mold installs will consist of clamping mold in the press, proper mold alignment, water, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical connections.
  • Mold pulls will consist of disconnecting all mold connections, putting all components in mold specific box, transporting mold to toolroom or stored area, and preparation of injection molding machine for incoming mold.
  • Troubleshoot any issues with injection molding machines, molds, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Maintain organization of mold boxes and components.
  • Create mold boxes and necessary components for new molds.
  • Train other Setup team members on safety, operational procedures, and startups.
  • Complete LOTO, Crane, Forklift, and Fall protection training.
  • Working Knowledge of SQF and GMP procedures.
  • Perform daily housekeeping to provide a clean and safe work environment.

Primary Purpose Summary

The SMED (Setup) Technician is responsible for supporting safe, efficient mold changes and ensuring injection molding machines are properly prepared for production. This role installs, removes, aligns, and connects molds while communicating mold change status, troubleshooting equipment issues, maintaining organized mold components, training Setup team members, and supporting compliance with safety, SQF, GMP, and housekeeping standards.

Detailed Description:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Install and remove injection molds in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Communicate the status of mold changes to operators, supervisors, technicians, and process engineers.
  • Perform mold installs by clamping the mold in the press, ensuring proper mold alignment, and completing water, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical connections.
  • Perform mold pulls by disconnecting all mold connections, placing all components in the mold-specific box, transporting the mold to the toolroom or storage area, and preparing the injection molding machine for the incoming mold.
  • Troubleshoot issues with injection molding machines, molds, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Maintain organized mold boxes and components.
  • Create mold boxes and necessary components for new molds.
  • Complete LOTO, Crane, Forklift, and Fall Protection training as assigned.
  • Maintain working knowledge of SQF and GMP procedures.
  • Assist with training team members as assigned.
  • Perform daily housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications
  • Candidate must possess strong mechanical aptitude, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic.
  • Preferred minimum of 1 year of injection molding experience; however, the right candidate with a mechanical background may be trained.
  • Crane and forklift experience preferred.
  • Can work overtime, including weekends, as directed.
  • Must be physically able to walk, climb, and access equipment as required to perform job duties.
  • Must have demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.

  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely install, remove, align, and connect injection molds.
  • Troubleshooting skills related to injection molding machines, molds, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Attention to safety, including proper use of LOTO, crane, forklift, and fall protection practices.
  • Communication skills to provide clear mold change status updates to operators, supervisors, technicians, and process engineers.
  • Organization and housekeeping to maintain mold boxes, components, equipment, and work areas.
  • Training and teamwork to support Setup team members on safety, operational procedures, and startups.
