Position Summary

The position will be responsible for performing Maintenance on all injection & Compression molding machines and may include maintenance on auxiliary equipment as well. The position will report to the Maintenance Supervisor.

 

 

Job Elements & Position Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of repair and construction operations to install, maintain or modify a wide variety of machinery and auxiliary production equipment under general supervision.
  • Diagnosing and remedy operating problems; disassemble, inspect and overhaul injection molding machine components.  Assist higher classified Mechanic(s) in correcting machine operating problems.  Confer with higher classified Mechanics or Supervisor on the need for repairs and/or replacement parts.
  • Fitting and aligning precision mechanisms, drives, bearings, etc. Layout and install molding machines, equipment, etc. May assist contractors on major plant installation and/or expansion etc. to make or alter replacement parts.  Use a variety of precision measuring instruments to check machine alignment, performance, fit parts, etc.
  • Routine repair projects are performed under general supervision.  Guidance and/or immediate supervision is provided on critical or extensive repair projects such as rebuilding injection molding presses, etc.
  • Receives instructions from the Maintenance Supervisor on the jobs to be carried out and their priorities.
  • Carries out tool changes according to laid down procedures and ensures the tool rack has the correct spares on it.
  • Reviews the tools for repair to ensure there is an adequate supply of spare tools on a continuous basis.
  • Carries out repairs to equipment on the shop floor or in the tool shop as quickly as possible to make sure there are no production stoppages.
  • Ensures that all the required paperwork is correctly completed and updates the maintenance database, if possible, at the beginning and/or end of the shift.
  • Repairs breakdowns as quickly as possible so that downtime is kept to a minimum and when necessary, obtain help from the Maintenance supervisor or Electrical department. All breakdowns and callouts are to be recorded in the maintenance database.
  • Carries out equipment modifications or improvements under the guidance of the Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Maintains all the machinery and ancillary equipment based on the Gulf Closures maintenance plan
  • Ensure the work area is always kept clean and tidy as well as free from spills.
  • Reports on all faulty equipment to avoid problems in future.
  • Reports any breakdowns that have not been fully rectified due to lack of spares or equipment.
  • Actively looks for improvements to equipment or procedures.
  • As the plant runs continually, you must be willing to work outside normal shift hours when the need arises.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Broad, general background in the installation and maintenance of machines and process equipment.
  • Familiarity with supporting systems including hydraulics, heat, and electrical controls, etc.
  • Additional schooling and training may be required.
  • Related education and/or experience equivalent to two to three years of trade school training plus one to three years of related work experience.
