Job Elements & Position Responsibilities
The position of Customer Quality Engineer working directly with Sales, Customer Service, Operations, and Quality Teams. The Customer Quality Engineer must develop relationships with customers that foster a positive partnership, facilitate resolution of customer issues and provide technical support during the life cycle of assigned products. A successful candidate will apply the VOC (voice of the customer) and Quality Assurance tools to improve Customer Service, Quality, and Delivery Performance within Aptar’s Quality Management System. This position offers support and knowledge of quality philosophies and disciplines to internal and external customers in the coordination of quality improvement efforts. The Customer Quality Engineer must support and adhere to all applicable plant certifications including but not limited to, ISO 9001:2015, SQF and BRC.
- Primary Quality Management customer interface for strategic Aptar customer accounts in North America.
- Utilize advanced knowledge of quality systems, problem solving methods, procedures and tools (e.g. certifications, audits, standards and process management) to improve overall quality ratings of Aptar with our customers by facilitating root cause analysis and corrective action plans
- Prepare and update all necessary quality reports as required by customers.
- Understand customer requirements and expectations to meet deliverables on time.
- Prepare sound responses to Customer-issued Corrective Actions
- Update customers in a timely fashion regarding the status of quality issues or any requests.
- Drive the reduction of customer induced related returns by understanding the true root cause and definition of corrective actions.
- Review customer specifications and resolve any discrepancies with Aptar product specifications.
- Participate in product quality planning and control process based on customer’s specifications and requirements.
- Resolve quality issues at our customers in a timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction. Determine and negotiate a mutually acceptable return and/or rework of product while preserving the Aptar/Customer relationship.
- Lead Customer certifications and on-site audits.
- Inform quality management team regarding customer feedback and expectations on product’s quality.
- Access and manage all customer computer quality reporting systems
- Coordinate with Quality Managers and/or Quality Engineers to discuss and resolve product quality issues raised by customers, as well as any audit results.
- Lead Cost of Quality reduction initiative for given area of responsibility.
- Assist in the development and review of standard operating procedures and work instructions.
- Aid in the development of product specifications, procedures and test methods as required.
- Provide mentoring and coaching to others performing similar jobs
- Demonstrated record of personal and professional growth such as enrollment in continuing education, licensing, degree or certificate programs
- Support and adhere to all system procedures and Company policies / procedures.
- Travel as necessary (up to 25%) to support our customers, sometimes on short notice
- All other duties as assigned.
Experience & Skills
- Must be able to successfully work in fast-paced environment and support department/company Goals & Objective's.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. The ability to communicate effectively process concepts and changes to Customers as well as across all teams.
- Good program and project management skills
- Must have a thorough understanding of problem-solving and quality improvement tools and techniques. This includes knowledge of management and planning tools, quality tools, preventive, and corrective actions, and how to overcome barriers to quality improvements.
- Able to work with minimal supervision
- Must be detail orientated and able to prioritize workload as well as meet deadlines.
- Fundamental understanding of quality philosophies, principles, systems, methods, tools, and standards.
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles, and SPC
- Must be able to acquire and analyze data using appropriate standard quantitative methods across a spectrum of business environments to facilitate process analysis and improvements.
- Ability to encourage interpersonal relationships, and improvement systems.
- Intermediate to advanced level skills with SAP, Microsoft Office software and Windows Operating system.
- Creative and innovative.
- Ability to interact and negotiate with outside suppliers and internal departments.
- Good vendor management skills.
- Ability to recommend product enhancements for manufacturability (part of job elements)
- Automation quoting/cost estimating experience.
- Understanding of Quality Systems, SPC, and test methods.
- Ability to lead and deliver the automation component of complex packaging systems on time, on rate and on budget.
- Ability to lead Design of Experiments process, data acquisition/assessment and solution recommendations.
- Knowledge Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement methods.
- Willingness and flexibility to learn new subjects.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of statistics and experience in its application for data analysis and problem solving.
- Ability to take responsibility and own performance by setting goals, seeking feedback and taking actions to develop a team.
- Experience in injection molding along with managing the development, testing and installation of related equipment used in the manufacturing of consumer-packaged goods products.
- Working knowledge of injection mold design and build and injection molding processes.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or CQE certification.
- Professional and optimistic attitude, ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to motivate others, remain focused and organized. Communicate with excellent written/verbal and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, resolve conflicts and drive customer satisfaction.
- Working knowledge of statistics, root cause analysis and corrective action process.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Quality Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or equivalent experience.
