SUMMARY:

The Prototyping Lab Engineer is an integral part of the product development process and is responsible for coordinating and providing pre- and post-production support for the development of new closures. This is a very collaborative role with cross-functional support of Product Development, Product Design, Customer Service, Marketing, and Sales.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Run, maintain, and manage logistics of the entire prototyping shop
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the production of prototypes
  • Molding using prototype molds – receive molds from vendors, setting it up in the molding press, compiling materials and auxiliary equipment, injection-molding the caps, creating or using a preestablished molding process, troubleshooting, and teardown after sampling
  • Operate molding press, including automatic, semi-automatic, and insert molds
  • Run molding experiments to evaluate mold and part function with different resins, additives, colorants, steel components, process variations, and special techniques
  • Ensure that part dimensions and aesthetic requirements meet the part design drawing
  • Maintain equipment and perform general maintenance as needed
  • Catalog tools for future use and maintain prototype mold information using a database
  • Develop and record molding processing parameters and provide sample summaries
  • Coordinate with vendors for external mold modifications and sampling
  • Create and track purchase requisitions for molds, materials, and supplies
  • Ship prototype closures to team members or customers
  • Facilitate mold construction and delivery, provide input for improvements of prototype and production molds
  • Develop and foster relationships with support departments across the plant including the Tool Room, Processing, Final Audit, Manufacturing Maintenance, Shipping/Sample Room

 

Non – Mandatory responsibilities:

 

  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping technologies such as 3D printing
  • Familiarity with SAP
  • Trained in Scientific Injection Molding
  •  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough understanding and experience in injection molding processing and troubleshooting
  • Basic knowledge of small-scale mold components and assembly
  • Ability to distinguish color and variation
  • Good mechanical and troubleshooting skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Familiarity with Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams
  • Physically capable of performing repetitive tasks and lifting 60 lbs.
  • Efficiently work without supervision
  • Be an interactive team member
