Value Engineer

This position is responsible for work in both our Mukwonago, WI and Cary, IL facilities. 

Position Summary

The primary purpose of the Value Engineer is to identify, implement and deliver projects that increase the value of Aptar’s products and/or reduce their costs.  This role is responsible for identifying project requirements using inputs from Purchasing, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, suppliers and customers, establishing project plans, estimating savings/value and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver results.  The Value Engineer is a critical contributor to Aptar’s profitability and overall customer satisfaction and will support multiple sites and product lines in North America.


Job Elements & Position Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate and implement actions that will offer measurable and sustainable savings through (but not limited to) materials, design, order fulfillment, process or packaging.
  • Research new technologies to identify innovative new materials or processes that improve the value of Aptar’s products.
  • Incorporate DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFM (Design for Manufacturability) strategies to produce cost effective solutions taking into account the product lifecycle.
  • Design and test VE product changes to ensure they meet form, fit and function requirements appropriate for application.   Changes may be material and/or geometry-related.
  • Conduct cost investigations to document the ROI including capital investment, system changes, and improved costs- cycle time, mold life, material benefits.
  • Provide strong leadership of cross-functional teams, using robust project management methodologies and experience.
  • Establish and manage project plans to ensure successful completion of the project.
  • Analyze, mitigate and communicate project risks.
  • Interface effectively with Customers, Suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Establish and manage project requirements (including Project Inquiries with business case), schedules and risks.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Material Science, Packaging) or four-year degree in plastics related field
  • Six Sigma black belt or demonstrated work towards that recognition, considered a plus


  • At least 3-5 years of mechanical engineering experience
  • At least 3-5 years of proven success leading cost savings and/or value creation projects, including leading cross-functional development teams
  • Experience in plastic products, injection molding and high-speed assembly
  • Functional knowledge of plastics materials and science is preferred 


  • Relentless drive for results -- projects executed with quality, on time and under budget.
  • Knowledge of project management methodology and techniques; experience with Planisware or similar project management system.
  • Knowledge of plastic part design and assembly.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across multiple functional areas and sites.
  • Creative solution provider to deliver results that meet business objectives.
  • Comfortable operating in the “gray” areas to deliver unique and robust solutions.
  • Able to clearly communicate project plans, risks and business plans to stakeholders at all levels, internal and external.
  • Business acumen; able to create business plans for investment.
  • Able to travel regionally and internationally as needed.
